Chevrolet is apparently developing a new Montana model for 2023. Unibody pickup trucks appear to have risen from mockery and imaginations to become the market’s most popular segment virtually overnight. There, the Ford Maverick, a Bronco Sport derivative, will fight against the Hyundai Santa Cruz, a Tucson-based pickup. Much less well-known is the fact that General Motors is developing a third possible competitor, the Montana truck.
Will any of Ford’s competitors respond by developing a compact pickup truck to directly rival the Maverick? Chevrolet is indeed manufacturing the Montana model, a compact four-door pickup with front-wheel drive. All reports indicate, however, that it will not be launched in the United States in the first year of production.
What We Know So Far About Montana Pickup?
The 2023 Chevy Montana will be an all-new pickup truck. According to Chevrolet, Montana will have several improvements to cater to today’s consumer requirements. Montana, however, will be the brand’s first compact unibody pickup. Chevrolet will abandon the classic single-cab two-door body type in favor of a four-door double cab.
Montana will now have accommodation for five passengers and a larger cargo area as a result. Of course, the idea is to compete with Ford’s brand-new Maverick, but we’re still waiting for further information on the Montana pickup.
Possible Powertrain Options
The upcoming 2023 Chevy Montana will be built on an expanded version of the GEM architecture. This is beneficial because this platform should deliver a higher-quality ride experience than the prior ones. As a result, we can already speculate on the engine that will power the Montana truck. At this point, a 1.2-liter three-cylinder powerplant is the most likely possibility. This engine produces 133 horsepower. Naturally, a more powerful motor will be available as an option.
What we do not know is the existence of a possible hybrid version. Nowadays, it makes logical to offer a tiny hybrid pickup. Whatever the case, Ford Maverick will be a hybrid, with some rumors already speculating on an all-electric Maverick. The Maverick Hybrid truck will produce approximately 250 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque.
2023 Chevy Montana Release Date and Price
The new-gen 2023 Chevy Montana will be a unibody compact pickup. According to reports, sales will begin later next year, implying that production will begin soon. Unfortunately, Montana will not be available in the United States during its initial year of production. Rather than that, Chevrolet will sell the new Montana pickup truck in South America. Montana will be built on the same platform as the Buick Encore model.
Montana would likely cost approximately $20,000, similar to the Ford Maverick. Chevrolet is definitely aiming to compete with Ford and its Maverick tiny pickup. Additionally, Hyundai Santa Cruz is a potential competitor as well. The Maverick will start at $21,000, while the Santa Cruz will likely cost slightly more. Chevrolet, on the other hand, has remained silent, and we anticipate hearing more specifics in the following months.
