The 2025 Chevy Kodiak is a popular nickname for the Silverado 4500 medium-duty truck. Chevrolet used this nameplate until 2009, when this class was discontinued. After the revival in 2019, the new nameplate was adopted. Fans are talking about it as a Kodiak already and GM could fulfill the wish. If this happens, you can also expect the Silverado 5500 to become the TopKick, probably with the GMC badge.
Other sources were reporting that GM is considering two old-school trucks as limited editions for existing fleet. Well, it happened a few years ago and nothing happened yet. The medium-duty class is not so attractive for premium upgrades, variety of trim levels and options. Instead, the focus is on the working capability. While in the heavy-duty pickup segment, there are 3 manufacturers (4 if you count GMC), in the medium-duty tier you will find only Chevy and Ford models.
Under the Hood
The big truck needs massive outputs. That is why a 6.6-liter turbodiesel is going to be the only option for the 2025 Chevy Kodiak. The Duramax unit can deliver 450 hp and 930 lb-ft of torque. Engineers might tune the powertrain to lower outputs and maximize the working potential of the Kodiak. Ram and Ford diesel mills in the heavy-duty class are able to produce more than 1,000 lb-ft, and in some cases, even up to 1,200 lb-ft. Chevrolet trucks are as capable as its rivals with lower numbers.
The latest revisits made the towing capacity go up and trucks with a diesel engine can pull more than 20,000 pounds. Series 5 truck, currently out as the Silverado 5500, potentially becoming TopKick, can do a bit more, but nothing spectacular.
Basic Equipment
The truck is not offering high-end premium options. It is packed and equipped to make the work as easy as possible, especially if you are about to spend a few hours in the truck. There are a few wheelbase configurations, stretching the truck from 141 to 175 inches. The big engine is noisy, but triple-sealed door will make the cabin pretty quiet. The suspension system is impressive for the big rig. Chevrolet will still have to put some modern features inside the cockpit, such as smartphone connectivity services for Android and Apple devices.
Regular and CrewCab are available cabins. WT and LT are current trim levels. So, nothing spectacular. Steel 19-inch wheels are there. The black bumper is an eye-catching part. Chrome bumper is optional.
2025 Chevy Kodiak Price, Competition
The commercial truck will cost from $55,000. This is not too expensive having in mind that new half-ton pickups are already close to $40k. The TopKick is not too much more expensive. With additional options, the MSRP climbs up to $65,000. The price is pretty much the same as for the Ford truck. FCA is not producing Ram 4500 and 5500 models.
