2024 Honda Ridgeline Type R Concept

The 2024 Honda Ridgeline Type R will be the ultimate upgrade for the unibody truck. Ridgeline is not the best-selling model, but it is still a unique build thanks to a non-BoF architecture. Only compact pickups are riding on this concept. Handling and maneuvering is better, but the Ridgeline will lack towing capacity. The Type R package is not going to fix it, but enhances the driving impression, on and off the road.

There are no too many vehicles with the Type R badge. Even in the past, only selected models got this upgrade. The truck was not one of them. But, fans expect more Type R badges in the next few years. Honda’s premium branch, Acura, added a few Type S vehicles to the lineup. Now it is turn for the non-premium vehicles, especially SUVs, to get the Type R treatment.

The 2024 Honda Ridgeline Type R is definitely getting a power boost and enhanced performance. We still don’t know if the truck is going to be focused on streets or wilderness. The Trailsport model was added to the lineup recently for the off-road drive. Plus, the body is getting a treatment that will make a pickup sportier and eye-catching.

Type R Models

Currently, only Civic hatchback is available with the Type R package. In the past, we also saw Integra, NSX, and Accord. We can also check Acura lineup, where vehicles are upgraded with the Type S package. We could see the resurrection of this lineup with TLX sedan, MDX crossover SUV and the Integra performance car. The company also announced the new ZDX and it is also going to feature the Type S package.

2024 Honda Ridgeline Type R Specs

We can go through all these models to check what could be the most suitable engine configuration for the truck. Civic is powered by a 2.0-liter turbo engine with 315 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. The base pickup can get 280 hp and 262 lb-ft from a V6 engine. The truck might get extra power from a four-banger. Ridgeline sprints 0-60 mph in 6.3 seconds. Civic Type R can do it under 5 seconds. The truck is heavier, so don’t expect such a performance, but the turbo-four can do 0-60 mph faster than the V6.

Acura Integra Type S uses the same turbocharged four-pot engine, but it is tuned to 320 hp. A 3.0-liter V6 is under the hood of the Type S models of the TLX sedan and MDX crossover SUV. This setup provides 355 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque. Truckers would love to see the 2024 Honda Ridgeline Type R with these numbers. Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) is standard and the engine sends power through a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Other powertrains are less likely. The company is preparing a few electric vehicles, but we doubt the Type R will be an EV. Besides the truck, Honda will add the package to the flagship model, Pilot. When the SUV gets the Type R treatment, the next in the queue is the Ridgeline.

Exterior and Interior

Besides the engine and performance boost, the 2024 Honda Ridgeline Type R will also look sportier. A lot of red details, a more aggressive bumper, special wheels, an exhaust system, and a unique suspension will make this truck pretty exclusive. The company is also going to revisit the box and add some extra features. Inside, the Type R seats are sporty, with contrasting stitches and heating/cooling. Special gauges and additional multimedia accessories are coming for this package.

When Will 2024 Honda Ridgeline Type R Be Available?

According to sources, the company is preparing a big update for the pickup truck. The all-new model might introduce special versions to draw more attention. One of them is already out – TrailSport. The 2024 Honda Ridgeline Type R is the next one. The Japanese truckmaker is developing the sporty truck and it might be out early next year. The price of this model will be the highest in the lineup, which is not hard to predict thanks to the enhanced engine. Depending on the powertrain, the Type R pickup might cost up to $60,000.
