It’s been a while since we’ve seen bigger changes on this pickup, which has always been one of those models who offer an excellent balance between price and quality. Finally, the next generation is around the corner. The new model is about to hit the market in the next year, while the testing model has been around for some time and it looks like there is a lot of interesting novelties to come. This will be an all-new model, as the Japanese manufacturer has ended its cooperation with GM. The new 2021 Isuzu D-Max won’t have anything in common with next-generation Colorado, which won’t come in the next couple of years for sure. On the other side, the new Isuzu is almost ready for production.
2021 Isuzu D-Max Redesign
One thing about this redesign is certain, it will bring loads of novelties. Unlike the outgoing model, the new Isuzu D-Max 2021 won’t have anything in common with Colorado. Isuzu has ended his cooperation with GM and now develops a completely new model by itself. Therefore, we are about to see a completely new platform, although the testing model features a shape that is quite similar to the current model.
Naturally, we are about t see a completely new styling. At this point, the test model still wears a camouflage. However, we can see the base contour of the new model, which will keep a pretty similar overall shape to the current truck. On the other side, we are about to see a completely new front face. The camouflage still hides new headlights and grille, but we can already find some rendering photos on the network that show how the all-new Isuzu D-Max 2021 could look like.
Of course, all of them suggest that the new model will stick to its styling philosophy and that we can count on headlights and grille that bring evolutionary changes only.
Partnership With Mazda
As we’ve just mentioned, Isuzu doesn’t work with GM anymore. Another Japanese manufacturer has ended cooperation with a U.S. car company. You may presume that we are talking about Mazda, a company that used to work with Ford. For the future, Mazda has chosen Isuzu for truck development.
Once again, Mazda won’t take care of anything but aesthetics. The two models will be produced in the same factory, and the front end should be the only notable difference. Eventually, we could see some of Mazda’s gasoline engines in the offer.
This truck has never been particularly attractive when it comes to interior design. The cabin in the current model is simple and straightforward. You won’t find any fancy materials or similar styling solutions. It is all about functionality. We presume that Isuzu will tend to make the new cabin more attractive, but we presume that functionality will remain the key feature of the cabin.
Still, some reports are suggesting we could see some pretty interesting new systems, mostly camera-based, with cameras on side mirrors and few more areas. Naturally, we count on different cab designs and bed sizes in the offer.
2021 Isuzu D-Max Engines
When it comes to the powertrain, we have no doubt that new all-new Isuzu D-Max 2021 will be all about diesel engines. Most likely the current units will remain in the offer, though we could see upgrades in terms of power and torque. The European version will carry on with a small but efficient 1.9-liter turbodiesel, which is good for about 160 horsepower.
In other parts of the world, you can find a bigger 3.0-liter turbodiesel, which is good for about 175 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque. With such numbers, the current generation already features some of the highest towing ratings in the class, which goes over 7.700 pounds.
The interesting thing about the new model is that many reports suggest it could hit the U.S. market as well. Therefore, we would like to see a gasoline version of this truck. The first one that comes to mind is Mazda’s 2.5-liter unit with around 185 horsepower, but we won’t be surprised if we see something more powerful as well.
2021 Isuzu D-Max Release Date and Price
The 2021 Isuzu D-Max release date is yet to be announced. Still, it looks like the new model is in the final stage of development, so we may see a premiere pretty soon. If it arrives in North America, we presume that base models would go around 25.000 dollars.
As we already mentioned, the new Mazda BT-50 will be based on the new 2021 Isuzu D-Max. The two models will share mechanics, as well as most of the exterior design. Practically, the front end should be the only major difference outside. When it comes to the interior, it is still unclear whether each company will design its own dashboard or not. The new Mazda BT-50 should come in the next year.
