The current generation of this mid-size pickup truck is aging pretty well, so it’s no wonder that no one expects to see bigger changes for the next year, although the 2020 GMC Canyon redesign has been rumored. According to the latest reports, the upcoming model won’t bring more important changes in terms of base design characteristics. Still, that doesn’t mean we won’t see some interesting novelties. One of the first that comes to mind is a new AT4 version, a new trim level that will be available across the whole GMC lineup.
Also, we should see a couple of interesting novelties in terms of features and standard equipment. Other than that, things are about to remain the same. This includes the engine lineup as well, despite the rumors about the new turbo-four engine. In any case, the 2020 GMC Canyon won’t arrive before late 2019.
2020 GMC Canyon Design
In terms of base design characteristics, the 2020 GMC Canyon definitely won’t change too much. Mechanically, this truck shares a lot with the Chevy Colorado, so its overall driving characteristics and capabilities are actually pretty good. The visual appearance is also very appealing, despite the age. This truck is characterized by pretty boxy and rugged styling, and it actually ages much better than its counterpart from Chevy, which will definitely need a facelift in the near future.
Interior
The interior design has always been a strong point of this truck. Compared to most rivals, it features much finer cabin, full of hi-quality materials and attractive shapes. Therefore, we have no doubt that the 2020 GMC Canyon will continue in the same way. Of course, there will be a various combination of cab designs and bed sizes in the offer, but all of them will feature great quality. Also, there is a pretty generous list of standard equipment.
Trim Levels
We don’t expect bigger changes when it comes to the trim level organization, so the 2020 GMC Canyon should continue with the same versions in the offer.
The offer will start with the SL model, which comes standard with things like 16-inch wheels, air conditioning, a four-way power driver’s seat, a rearview camera, Bluetooth, a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto etc.
The base Canyon doesn’t add too many standard features, but it is available in a Crew Cab version, as well as with a V6 engine.
The SLE is next in the line. It adds things like 17-inch wheels, power side mirrors, upgraded interior trim materials, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, an 8-inch touchscreen, satellite radio, while there are also numerous optional packages in the offer.
The SLT is highlighted by upgrades like 18-inch wheels, leather upholstery, wireless charging for compatible cellphones etc.
Finally, count on the 2020 GMC Canyon Denali, which is arguably one of the most luxurious mid-size trucks you can find around. Besides numerous additions in terms of standard equipment, it also comes with a load of distinctive styling details, including a different grille, wheels, and lights, as well as a lot of chrome details.
2020 GMC Canyon AT4
This will probably be the biggest 2020 GMC Canyon change we are about to see for the next year. The AT4 is a new trim level that comes for all GMC models. It is all about off-road upgrades, so we may presume that the 2020 GMC Canyon AT4 will be able to compete with models like Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro and similar models. Therefore, count on various mechanical upgrades, particularly in terms of new suspension, higher ground clearance etc. Of course, various visual enhancements are expected as well.
2020 GMC Canyon Engines
This aspect definitely won’t bring any changes. Despite the new turbo-four has been rumored, it looks like this engine won’t be available in the Canyon. Therefore, count on three familiar units. Base models will continue with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder unit, which is good or about 200 horsepower. Of course, there is also a bigger 3.6-liter V6 in the offer. This one is good for about 310 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque. Finally, there is a 2.8-liter Duramax Turbodiesel, which delivers around 180 horsepower and 370 pound-feet of torque.
GMC Canyon Syclone
Older generations probably remember for famous GMC Syclone model. Built in 1991, it is still one of the most amazing trucks ever made, famous for plenty of power and astonishing acceleration. The Specialty Vehicle Engineering company has decided to make a custom version of the Canyon that will be a kind of a tribute to the iconic truck.
It will come as the 2020 GMC Canyon Sylcone. Among numerous upgrades, it will come with a Supercharged version of a familiar V6 engine, with a total amount of 455 horsepower, which should ensure spectacular performances.
Release Date and Price
Although there will be a couple of interesting novelties, the 2020 GMC Canyon won’t come earlier than usual. We expect to see it sometime late in the year, with the starting price of around 22.500 dollars.
