Skoda Mountiaq Pickup Truck Based On Kodiaq SUV

A couple of months ago, the Czech carmaker presented a concept truck named Skoda Mountiaq Pickup Truck. After a very good reception, journalists already started to speculate about serial production. At this point, it is too early for some more serious statements, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t speculate as well. Therefore, keep the following paragraphs with a reserve, as we are still waiting to hear something from the officials.

Skoda Mountiaq Pickup Truck

Skoda Mountiaq Pickup Truck Design

When it comes to base design characteristics, the new Skoda Mountiaq Pickup Truck shares a lot with the Kodiaq. The mid-size SUV came three years ago and the concept truck borrows many things from its. As you may presume, it rides on the same MQB platform and shares most of the mechanics.

However, it is notably longer, as it measures more than 198 inches in overall length. That’s almost 12 inches more than the SUV sibling. Also, keep in mind that the concept version came as a tuned off-roader, so there are various chassis reinforcements, particularly in terms of suspension setup, which is designed for off-road drives. Of course, the ground clearance is notably higher as well. In terms of styling, you can easily notice a familiar face.

In terms of the overall layout, the concept comes in a crew cab design. Still, the doors are a little bit shorter compared to Kodiaq, but they are also thicker.

If the production version is ever going to arrive, we presume that standard models would be more on-road oriented. Therefore, these models wouldn’t feature all these upgrades, but rather a typical truck layout. Still, we probably won’t see work truck, single cab versions in the offer, considering that the truck rides on a unibody platform.

Such a design approach puts focus on comfort and ride quality, rather than on utility. So, the towing capacity would probably be significantly lower compared to more traditional, body-on-frame pickup trucks like HiLux, Navara, D-Max etc.

Interior

In terms of the interior design, we probably wouldn’t see too many differences compared to the Kodiaq. The concept version came with the pretty much same cabin design, with just a couple of exclusive details in terms of color schemes, stitching, and similar things. We presume things would remain pretty much the same in the production version. Of course, we count on all those goodies that can be found in the SUV sibling, in terms of tech features, advanced safety systems etc.

Skoda Mountiaq Pickup Truck Engines

The concept version came with a familiar 2.0-liter TSI gasoline engine, which is good for about 180 horsepower. Naturally, the production version would come with several more engines in the offer. We presume the engine lineup would be the same as for the Kodiaq. This would mean a couple of more gasoline and diesel engines.

When comes to gasoline units, the offer would also include a smaller 1.4-liter engine with around 150 horsepower. On the other side, diesel lineup would be pretty much about a famous 2.0-liter TDI. It comes in two variants in terms of power output, with either 150 or 190 horsepower. Both manual and automatic transmissions should be in the offer.

Skoda Mountiaq Pickup Truck Release Date and Price

The Skoda Mountiaq Pickup Truck is just a concept for now and if we can trust the latest reports, it probably won’t enter serial production. It looks like the Czech manufacturer would rather launch a more traditional, Amarok-based pickup truck. In any case, if it ever arrives, we presume that this truck would feature starting price somewhere between 25.000 and 30.000 Euros.
