2022 Chevy Silverado ZRX Off-Road Pickup Beast is Confirmed

The new Silverado came a year ago and it looks like GM engineers did a great job. The truck looks great and rides even better. However, the thing we don’t like about the truck is that there is no genuine off-road version in the offer. Of course, there is a famous ZL1 package and a Trail Boss trim level in the offer, but these versions aren’t actually a match for the undisputed Ford Raptor. Moreover, even the good-old Tundra TRD Pro feels far more capable on hard terrains. Fortunately, that will change soon, as the company is about to introduce a model called 2022 Chevy Silverado ZRX.

This will be a genuine off-roader, a direct rival to the Ford Raptor, which is about to come even better and more powerful in the near future. The latest reports are suggesting a lot of upgrades over standard models, particularly in terms of the off-road suspension and other off-road features. This version is about to come in about two years and could easily be not the only novelty for this model year.

2022 Chevy Silverado ZRX Specs

Naturally, the 2022 Chevy Silverado ZRX will come with big upgrades over standard models. As we already mentioned, the current model already comes in variants with various off-road upgrades. There are things like lifted suspension, skid plates, upgraded shocks, off-road tires, hill descent control, an automatic locking rear differential, and a two-speed transfer case. Still, rivals like F-150 Raptor and Tundra TRD Pro offer more, while expectations from the new Ram 1500 Rebel are pretty big as well.

Fortunately, the 2022 Chevy Silverado ZRX will bring a lot of upgrades as well. At this point, we know a couple of upgrades that will certainly come. The first certain thing that comes to mind is a Multimatic-sourced Dynamic Spool Suspension Valve (DSSV) position-sensitive dampers. This feature is already available in the smaller Colorado ZR2 and it ensures obvious improvements both on and off the road, which indicates the ZRX would be pretty versatile. Also, we count on locking differentials front and rear.

Another thing we could see in the 2022 Chevy Silverado ZRX is Fox suspension, which would connect chassis with wheels. At this point, we are still waiting for the official confirmation for this feature.

Styling

Of course, styling upgrades are expected as well. At this point, it is still early to talk about details, but we may presume in which way the new version would go. One of the first things that come to mind are new bumpers. Not only that they will look more aggressive, but we also count on a little bit different shapes, which will provide a bigger approach and departure angles.

Naturally, this won’t be the only change. We also count on visual details that are typical for off-roaders. Count on a lot of black plastics, on the grille, around wheels etc. Unique rims and off-road tires seem certain, as well as exclusive color options.

Also, we are not sure about the body style. A single-cab version definitely won’t come, as this will be not just off-road capable, but also a pretty luxurious truck. Therefore, two rows of seats are a certain thing. Both double and crew cab layouts seem likely.

Exclusive details are expected on the inside as well. Some of the things that come to mind are unique color schemes, ZRX stitching and a couple of other exclusive features. Also, we count on a pretty long list of standard equipment, which will definitely be much longer compared to the Trail Boss.

How about the Powertrain?

This aspect of the 2022 Chevy Silverado ZRX looks pretty intriguing at the moment. According to most reports, the new truck probably won’t get any engine upgrade. Most likely, it would carry on with a well-known 6.2-liter V8, which is good for about 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque.

That’s a nice amount, but not exactly on par with the Raptor, which features a 3.5-liter twin-turbo that delivers 450 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque. Moreover, the latest reports are suggesting a new version with over 700 horsepower. The same thing is with the new Ram Rebel TRX, which is expected to come with a mighty 6.2-liter Hellcat V8, which delivers 707 horsepower.

Chevy already an engine that can match these numbers. Of course, we are talking about the Supercharged 6.2-liter V8. There are two variants, LT4 and LT5, good for about 650 and 755 horsepower, respectively. The first one can be found in Camaro, while the LT5 powers Corvette ZR1.

2022 Chevy Silverado ZRX With Diesel Engine?

As we already mentioned, many reports, including www.musclecarsandtrucks.com, are suggesting that this version could also come with a diesel version. This wouldn’t be a particularly fast variant of the truck but could be interesting to many potential buyers, as there is no other off-roader with an oil-burner on the market. Of course, this truck would feature a familiar 3.0-liter inline-six turbodiesel that delivers 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque.

Any other changes for future Silverado models?

This will definitely be the biggest novelty in the near future, but we could see a couple of more updates as well. We don’t expect a facelift or some other major changes. The production cycle of this truck isn’t very long, so there’s no need for such changes. Still, updates in terms of new features are always welcome. Some trim level and equipment groups reorganization seem likely as well. Another novelty that could come in the near future is some form of electrifications.

Hybrid and all-electric versions of the F-150 are expected in a couple of years. Toyota Tundra will come with hybrid powertrain already in the next year, so we could expect from Chevy to make a similar move in the near future as well. At this point, the company’s management is pretty quiet on this matter.

2022 Chevy Silverado ZRX Release Date and Price

At this point, it is hard to say anything more precise in this aspect. Still, the www.musclecarsandtrucks.com are first to come with information that this Chevy pickup will come to dealerships in a couple of years. When it comes to the price, the current Raptor goes around 50.000 dollars, but the price could jump significantly with a new V8 engine that has been reported.

Therefore, we could expect a similar price tag for the 2022 Chevy Silverado ZRX. Of course, the Raptor will be the biggest rival, but the new Tundra is coming next year and should offer even better TRD Pro, with excellent off-road capabilities. The Ram Rebel TRX is another potential rival.
