We saw the all-new 2022 Chevy Silverado ZR2 for the first time, a few weeks ago. The spy photos are available and this impressive pickup truck looks incredible. As we expected, Chevrolet opted for very aggressive styling and a couple of new exterior features. Interestingly, the latest cosmetic upgrades on the Silverado 1500 variant will be on the ZR2 model too.
Moreover, the interior updates will also refresh the cabin, but nothing will change under the bonnet. This means the ZR2 version will deploy a potent 6.2-liter engine. On the other hand, various reports are still writing about the supercharged powertrain option. Thanks to that, Silverado ZR2 will be more competitive and closer to the Ford F-150 Raptor and Ram Rebel TRX models.
2022 Silverado ZR2 Spy Photos
The 2022 Chevy Silverado ZR2 will look astonishing. New spy shots are showing exactly that, although the prototype was spotted with plenty of camo. Anyway, the ZR2 model will provide a dominant front section with additional ground clearance. Moreover, the manufacturer will improve the approach and departure angles. The front bumper is completely redesigned and new skid plates are also on offer.
Red tow hooks were easy to spot, but we couldn’t find the lower air dam beneath that camouflage. As we expected, the hood sits taller and it hosts a nice-looking and aggressive bulge. An elevated hood clearly suggests a supercharged powertrain, but this is still just a rumor. Finally, Chevrolet will introduce all-new LED headlights and LED taillights.
Interior Upgrades
The upcoming 2022 Chevy Silverado ZR2 should arrive with a new interior design. Silverado 1500 will get a cabin redesign, so it is only logical for the ZR2 model to follow the same path as its sibling. We expect the same updates, so the ZR2 variant will surely gain more tech features and better design. On top of that, new upholstery is in the works and the center stack is redesigned.
The dashboard sports the same layout but it looks better than before. As we expected, Silverado ZR2 will provide larger displays than the regular Silverado 1500 pickup. As you know, GM plans to offer its brand-new Super Cruise hands-free system. However, we don’t know if the ZR2 model will get one.
Is ZR2 Getting Supercharged V8?
As we said, the biggest rumor about the new 2022 Chevy Silverado ZR2 is the supercharged engine. This is not confirmed, but spy shots are saying that something is happening under the hood. Allegedly, a 6.2-liter V8 gasoline engine with the supercharger is the most likely outcome. Thanks to that, Silverado ZR2 will be able to rival competitors such as Ford F-150 Raptor R and Ram Rebel TRX.
A regular 6.2-liter V8 seems to be the most likely outcome at the moment. This proven engine develops 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. This is way below Ram Rebel and its 707 hp, or new Ford Raptor R with 760 hp.
2022 Chevy Silverado ZR2 Release Date, Price
The forthcoming 2022 Chevy Silverado ZR2 truck will now cost around $64,000. This is a small jump in price, given how drastic the updates are. Chevrolet will launch its new model in the last quarter of the year, most likely around November.
