2021 Ford F-150 Hybrid: Everything We Know So Far

The new generation of the world’s best-selling pickup is here. While we can talk about amounts of change and how deep they are, there is one thing that is without any doubt a huge novelty. Of course, we are talking about a new 2021 Ford F-150 Hybrid, which will hit the market by the end of the year. For the first time, the Blue Oval company will offer an electrified version of its pickup truck and from what we can see, it will be a true hybrid, not a mild one.

Of course, the upcoming redesign will bring other kinds of novelties as well. There is a new styling, as well as a lot of revisions in terms of mechanics. Still, all the changes are pretty evolutionary and you will hardly find anything radical in this overhaul. When it comes to the 2021 Ford F-150 Hybrid release date, we presume it will hit the market in the last quarter of the year.

2021 Ford F-150 Hybrid Specs

Of course, the most interesting thing about the new version is under the skin and from what we know so far, things look pretty interesting. First of all, we know for sure that the new version will be based on a 3.5-liter V6 engine, most likely the same version that powers Raptor. In practice, this means a powerful 450-hp gasoline engine, which will get help from a 47-horsepower electric motor. Still, keep in mind that the exact 2021 Ford F-150 Hybrid specs are still unknown and that the exact numbers are yet to come.

On the other side, we definitely know that the expected fuel economy is around 24/25 miles per gallon on the highway, which clearly indicates that the new version will be able to make around 700 miles with just one fuel tank. Also, we know for sure that this hybrid system will be paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and that both 2WD and 4WD models will be in the offer. Finally, the 2021 Ford F-150 Hybrid will be pretty capable, as the company claims max towing capacity of 12.000 pounds. The exact numbers in terms of the payload are still unknown, but we presume this model will be good for about 2.500 pounds.

The rest of the engine lineup is expected to remain the same, which means several V6 engines, one V8 and a diesel version. An all-electric F-150 will come in the next couple of years.

2021 Ford F-150 Hybrid Design

When it comes to base design characteristics, the 2021 Ford F-150 Hybrid will be part of the upcoming redesign. The whole lineup is about to get an overhaul and we already know most of the changes. First of all, we won’t see anything radical this time. While the previous redesign was all about significant changes, in terms of lightweight body and chassis, this one will be much milder. Moreover, the overall layout will remain largely the same. That was pretty much expected.

The mechanical aspect of the truck will remain largely the same, with just evolutionary upgrades. We can say the same for the styling, as the overall look isn’t much different compared to the outgoing model. You can notice evolutionary changes at the front. Headlights are bigger, while everything looks slightly bolder. Still, this looks more like a facelift than a complete overhaul. Still, we have to say that the new model is slightly wider and that it comes with bigger and higher fender flares that make the truck look more muscular.

Interior

Interior changes seem deeper compared to the exterior. First of all, there is a new dashboard design, which utilizes a lot of interesting novelties. You can easily notice a new dashboard, which comes with loads of new tech goodies, new shape and finer materials. One of the interesting details is a new, dual glovebox design.

Base models will already come equipped with an 8-inch touchscreen, while the new 12.0-inch vertically positioned unit will be reserved for the highest trim levels. A digital instrument cluster will also be available.

Another thing we have to mention is that the 2021 Ford F-150 Hybrid will be offered as a powertrain option. This means it will be available in all trim levels, starting from the most basic XL model. On the other side, we are not sure about the body styles, as some sources suggest this powertrain won’t be available in single cab models.

2021 Ford F-150 Hybrid Release Date and Price

The production of 2021 Ford F-150 Hybrid is about to start production in a couple of months and it looks like the new model will hit showrooms sometime in the last quarter of 2020. When it comes to the price, we are still waiting for details. In any case, the closest rival should be a hybrid version of the new Ram 1500, but keep in mind that the all-new Toyota Tundra is coming with a hybrid powertrain, which looks really promising.
