2020 Chevrolet Kodiak 4500HD: Specs, Price and Release Date

If we can rely on the latest reports, it looks like Chevy plans to bring back a familiar nameplate. The Kodiak was in production for more than three decades and it was the company’s player in the segment of medium-duty trucks. However, things weren’t that good in the past decade. Due to an economic crisis, the model was discontinued in 2009. Until last year, Chevy didn’t have models to offer in this segment. However, we now have the Silverado 4500 and 5500 models. Despite the name, they actually don’t have too many things in common with light and heavy-duty models. Moreover, they were built from the ground up. Therefore, the latest reports suggest we could see a familiar nameplate once again, this time as the 2020 Chevrolet Kodiak 4500HD, for start.

2020 Chevrolet Kodiak 4500HD Specs

Our reliable source suggests that GM plans a new entry-level version of medium-duty trucks, which would come with a well-known nameplate. At this point, we don’t have too many details about the 2020 Chevrolet Kodiak 4500HD specs, but some of the things about the future model seem pretty clear. Of course, one of them is the engine. There is no doubt that this truck will come with a familiar 6.6-liter Duramax V8 turbodiesel. This engine proved itself as an excellent choice for medium-duty trucks. Expect a max output of around 350 horsepower and 700 pound-feet of torque. Both two- and four-wheel-drive models are expected.

2020 Chevrolet Kodiak 4500HD Design

As we already mentioned, it is still unclear which exact models will carry the Kodiak 4500HD name. The new medium-duty models already came under Silverado name, so we may only speculate about the versions for this badge. The current Silverado 4500 comes in various versions in the offer. There are numerous cab-to-axle options, in various size, so it doesn’t sound unlikely at all that the 2020 Chevy Kodiak 4500HD could come as a special version, with a classic cargo bed, something that Chevy doesn’t have in the offer currently.

The new Silverado class 4, 5 and 6 trucks were built from the ground up, as we already mentioned. Therefore, they don’t have too much in common with smaller Silverado models. A completely new chassis, despite the styling has a lot in common with smaller trucks.

Since we are talking about a typical work machine, we count on pretty straightforward interior design, pretty similar to what we can see in Silverado medium-duty models. Still, the 2020 Chevrolet Kodiak 4500HD could be a little bit more generous in terms of standard equipment and come with a little bit more refinement.

Another interesting thing is that Kodiak’s sibling has been rumored as well. We could once again see the GMC TopKick, which has always been in a tight relationship with the Kodiak. However, details about it are still unavailable and everything is in a domain of theory.

Release Date

The company keeps details about the 2020 Chevrolet Kodiak 4500HD release date as secret. Moreover, it is still unclear whether the new model is about to come or not. At this point, we can only speculate. Still, it looks pretty much for sure that we won’t see it before the next year.

Price

One thing is for sure, the 2020 Chevrolet Kodiak 4500HD price will go in a pretty wide range, due to various configurations that are expected to be in the offer. Most likely, base models will go between 50.000 and 55.000 dollars.
