The pickup truck segment is now hotter than ever. Essentially, each brand offers at least one pickup. The upcoming 2022 Mazda BT-50 is an excellent example because it is Mazda’s only pickup truck. Mazda intends to produce additional trucks, both light and heavy-duty. BT-50, on the other hand, is now the only one.

Several manufacturers had to postpone their plans because of the Covid-19 epidemic, but Mazda intends to increase sales of the BT-50 model. However, the segment is strong and BT-50 will have to undergo numerous modifications in order to stay competitive. Mazda will undoubtedly provide further improvements in 2022. This includes a modern interior design, an updated exterior, and a greater list of standard amenities.

Mazda BT-50 Could Introduce a Redesign

The 2022 Mazda BT-50 will be updated in terms of design. Mazda hinted at this possibility a few months ago, although it is not yet official. The BT-50 is a nice pickup truck, although it appears to be out of date. As a result, some substantial aesthetic modifications are on the way. The new architecture is only the starting point.

The new chassis can support a hybrid engine, which is fantastic. Furthermore, Mazda will make minor changes to the truck’s proportions. Regardless, the majority of the exterior elements will expand in size as well. New BT-50 will introduce a larger grille and redesigned headlights. The grille is more attractive, and the headlights and taillights are shaped differently.

Interior Changes

There will also be a lot of refreshments inside the cabin. We anticipate a few big upgrades for the 2022 Mazda BT-50. For starters, this refreshment cycle will produce more upright content. The interior layout and its color schemes, on the other hand, will stay unchanged. Mazda will minimize the number of buttons, thus a new control layout is possible.

We anticipate that the BT-50’s interior space will improve as it grows in size. More space and more standard amenities will undoubtedly make this model more competitive. The Japanese manufacturer will also include extra safety features, although the trim levels will remain the same as on the present model.

Engine Specs

What’s beneath the hood is maybe the greatest mystery at the moment. Although a new engine is possible, the 2022 Mazda BT-50 will most likely feature the same engines as the present model. The new platform does, indeed, imply certain changes. A hybrid powertrain might be the answer, but we’ll have to wait for Mazda to make it public. Mazda’s turbodiesel engine is a foregone conclusion.

Without a doubt, a 2.3-liter engine will be offered again. One of the speculated engines that might be offered is a 3.0-liter. This powerplant, which can produce 195 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque, is already used by Isuzu and Mazda.

2022 Mazda BT-50 Release Date, Price

The all-new 2022 Mazda BT-50 will be somewhat more expensive. However, the price is not yet available. More information will become available in the following weeks. The new BT-50 pickup truck will be available at showrooms in the second half of 2021. Mazda should provide a new hybrid engine option, which will be the highlight of the 2022MY.

Although it’s not the most popular truck in Australia and similar markets, this models is hugely important for Mazda. Therefore, the Japanese carmaker is turning a new page in the history of this model. The original model of the BT-50 came in 2006, while the current, second-generation has been around since 2011. Therefore, the 2021 Mazda BT-50 redesign seems natural.

Still, it will bring more significant changes that you’ve probably expected from an overhaul like this. Mazda has never been famous for body-on-frame vehicles. Therefore, the mid-size pickup has been co-developed with Ford. Moreover, most of the first two generations is actually a Ford Ranger. However, things will be a little bit different in the future. Mazda has found a new lover. This time, it will be a joint venture with another renowned truck maker, Isuzu.

Once again, the BT- 50 will be based on another truck, this time on the next-generation D-Max. Of course, most of the mechanics will be Isuzu’s parts, while Mazda will take care of aesthetics. Latest reports are suggesting that the new truck could hit the market already in the next year, as the new Mazda BT-50 2021 model.

2021 Mazda BT-50 Redesign

Considering all the aforementioned, the 2021 Mazda BT-50 redesign will bring some pretty radical changes. As you may presume, Isuzu will take care of the platform and most mechanics. Therefore, we are about to see Isuzu’s new platform, which will bring a lot of new design solutions. One of the possible novelties is a new suspension setup. It looks like the new model will feature a coilover suspension, instead of three-leaf design that characterizes the current generation.

2021 Mazda BT-50 Redesign

Of course, the BT-50 will come with the same feature. When it comes to styling, we expect much more influence from Mazda. After all, this carmaker has one of the best-looking design languages in the automotive industry today, so we may expect its application on the new truck as well. We presume that each truck would come with its own face, while the overall shape would look largely the same. After all, latest reports are suggesting that the all-new Mazda BT-50 2021 will be produced in Isuzu’s assemblies, along with the new D-Max.

Engine and Performances

Of course, the most important aspect of the new model will be its capabilities. Considering that the new model will be based on the new D-Max, we may presume that the 2021 Mazda BT-50 will feature the same engines. The current D-Max comes with a variety of engines in the offer. We presume that Mazda would pick just one or two of them.

Naturally, those would be diesel units and the first one that comes to mind is a bigger 3.0-liter turbodiesel, which is good for about 177 horsepower. Of course, we count on a notable power boost in this case, which should have a highly positive impact on towing capacity and overall performances. The current generation of both BT-50 and D-Max can tow up to 3.500 kg (7.700 pounds), so we could expect slight improvements in these aspects, although it is still early to talk about numbers.

2021 Mazda BT-50 Towing Capacity

Another engine we could see under the hood of BT-50 is a smaller 2.5-liter turbodiesel. Isuzu uses this engine for the European market and it delivers around 165 horsepower. So, if Mazda decides to offer a new truck in the Old Continent as well, we could see it with this engine. Of course, we count on a slight power boost in this case as well.

Some reports are also suggesting that Mazda could offer some of its own engines, particularly a gasoline options. We haven’t heard anything from the officials on this matter up to this date.

Interior

The new model will also bring a new cabin design, and it looks like Mazda is going to take care of it, instead of using the same design as the D-Max. After all, even the current generation features a different dashboard than the Ranger, so this seems logical. Still, there’s a possibility to see Izusu with Mazda’s cabin design, which would definitely be interesting to see, considering that the D-Max has never been famous for stylish interiors.

On the other side, Mazda could apply some of its latest design solutions and offer a stylish, premium-like cabin, which would definitely be a strong point when competing with rivals like Toyota HiLux, Ford Ranger etc. Naturally, we count on the latest tech features as well. When it comes to cab design, we expect that the new Mazda BT-50 2021 will come in a double cab layout only.

2021 Mazda BT-50 Release Date and Price

If we can rely on the latest reports, the new 2021 Mazda BT-50 will be ready by the second half of the next year. Therefore, we expect it will hit the market sometime in the third quarter of 2020. When it comes to the price, we presume that the new model feature starting price between 35.000 and 40.000 Australian Dollars, depending on the level of standard equipment. More details should be known soon.

Mazda BT-50 Boss Edition

The new model will come in about a year, but that doesn’t mean we won’t see any interesting novelty before. The Japanese manufacturer has just announced that a new, Boss version is coming for the 2020 model year. this will be a range-topping model, with various upgrades over standard models.

Mazda BT-50 Boss Edition

The first thing you’ll notice is the presence of various distinctive styling details. The truck comes in a double cab layout and exclusively in a white finish. However, there are tons of black parts, including bumpers, wheels, roll bars, grille, side mirrors and more.

When it comes to powertrain, you can count on Ford’s well-known 3.2-liter five-cylinder turbodiesel and standard all-wheel drive. On the inside, you can find exclusive features like Alpine sound system with carbon fiber speakers, as well as the infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The starting price of Mazda BT-50 Boss Edition goes around 56.000 AUD.

Although everyone is talking about the next generation and Mazda’s new partner Isuzu, the current, Ranger-based BT-50 still has a lot of things to show. The 2020 Mazda BT-50 may be the last model year of the current generation, but that doesn’t mean we won’t see changes. Moreover, the Japanese carmaker has prepared a new version, which will come as the Mazda BT-50 Eclipse 2020, which will be a performance-oriented version, at least in terms of aesthetics. We are about to see several new aesthetical details, while the mechanics are probably about to remain the same.

2020 Mazda BT-50

2020 Mazda BT-50 Eclipse

Of course, this will be the most interesting thing about the Mazda BT-50 2020 model and that is for a good reason. This version will come with a completely new exterior package, which includes various exclusive styling details. The first thing you’ll probably notice is a completely new front bumper, which is more massive and comes with new fog lights, bigger air intakes and very performance-oriented overall shape. Also, you can notice a lot of chrome details, particularly on the grille.

From the side, you can notice much more muscles around wheels. The same thing goes for the hood, which is curvier than usually. The truck comes in a dual cab layout and comes with horizontally aligner rear lights. This version also comes with standard LED daytime running lights, as well as with some pretty nice graphics.

2020 Mazda BT-50 Eclipse

Interior

This version comes with a couple of distinctive details on the inside as well. As we already mentioned, it comes exclusively in dual-cab layout. You can notice a new interior scheme, which follows the changes from the outside. Other than that, you can see a typical BT-50 interior. We are still waiting for the details about standard equipment. Still, we have no doubt that the new model will come standard with things like a touchscreen, smartphone integration, dual-zone climate control etc.

Engine

Things will remain pretty familiar under the hood of this attractive version. It will feature a familiar 3.2-liter five-cylinder turbodiesel, which comes in pair with a six-speed automatic gearbox. The engine delivers around 185 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque.

2020 Mazda BT-50 Specs

When it comes to the rest of the lineup, things are about to remain the same. As we already mentioned, this will be the last model year of the current generation, so there is no more space for surprises. Therefore, count on a familiar design, interior layout and features. The trim level organization should remain the same as well.

2020 Mazda BT-50 Interior

When it comes to powertrain, the aforementioned five-cylinder turbodiesel will be available in other versions as well. Still, base models feature a smaller, 2.2-liter turbo-four, which is good for about 150 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque.

2020 Mazda BT-50 Release Date and Price

We expect that the 2020 Mazda BT-50 will hit the market in the last quarter of the year. Changes in price are not expected, so base models should go around 29.000 Australian Dollars.

Redesign

The redesign of this pickup truck is around the corner and it is about to bring a lot of interesting novelties. First of all, this truck won’t be based on the Ford Ranger anymore. The next generation will share most of its design characteristics with the Isuzu D-Max. The two models will feature pretty much identical design.

Even in terms of the styling, the only notable difference will be in terms of headlights, along with a couple of more tweaks. The mechanics are about to be completely from Isuzu, though we are still waiting for more details. The new model will arrive in the next year.
