It feels like we don’t talk enough about heavy-duty trucks. The 2024 Chevy Silverado 2500HD is here to change that. The Silverado is one of the top-selling pickups on the market, and for good reason. It does all the things properly; it is very capable and has the style to go with it. Mid-size pickups are used for work and everyday agendas, while their heavy-duty siblings have one purpose.
They need to be equipped with the right tools to haul a lot and tow a lot. There are improvements coming to the Silverado 2500 HD, both on the outside and inside. The powertrain might not receive an update, however. Let’s read to find out more about the upcoming changes.
Chevy Silverado 2500HD Interior
The inside needs some improvement. The new 2024 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD should get improved seating. Nothing is worse than sitting for eight hours straight in your work truck. Unless it has bad seating. More cushioning and better lumbar support are needed. Heating and ventilating seats are present, but we want to see Chevy introduce a massaging feature.
This would give a luxurious feel as well as be helpful. Infotainment and the dashboard are unchanged from the previous version. Hands-free driving will be present, which is an excellent addition for a work truck, especially.
Mild Visual Updates
The new 2024 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD looks similar to its predecessors. It is big and aggressive and is capable of off-roading as well. This is due to adaptive air suspension and good ground clearance. The cargo bed is standard and has a multifunctional tailgate. We are glad to see that there are lights on the roof of the pickup. This ensures the best possible visibility, especially during night shifts.
Headlights are on 2 levels and use the latest LED technology. The front fascia is huge and made from lightweight aluminum. This ensures strength as well as shaving off some weight. This helps with the power-to-weight ratio. The truck itself has an ergonomic and aerodynamic look to it. This greatly improves handling and steering.
Towing Capacity, Transmission
There are plenty of choices when it comes to powertrain options for the 2024 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD. We have the old reliable 6.6-liter V8 that runs on petrol. This can produce 400 horses and 465 lb-ft of torque. It is the basic model and is available on all Silverado models. It is reliable and long-lasting, hence why Chevy is using it once again. This comes with a six-speed automatic transmission.
There is also a Duramax turbo diesel option with a 6.6-liter V8. It produces 445 horses and a whopping 910 pound-feet of torque. The other option for this engine is a 505-horsepower and 1050-lb-torque diesel-tweaked version. It comes with a 10-speed automatic transmission and can tow over 36,000 pounds. This is excellent if you are looking for a pickup that can pull a lot of weight. There is also going to be a fully electric Silverado quite soon.
Chevy announced a dual motor setup that will be similar to Hummer’s new EV and Cybertruck. Perhaps they could have used more motors, but a dual setup is a bare minimum. The EV pickup will be able to produce over 660 horses. This is on par with its traditional engine variants. We will have more information about the electric pickup soon. Based on the specifications, we might guess that the battery pack is not smaller than 150 kWh.
Fuel Economy
The 2024 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD does come with a price. It needs a lot to keep running. On the highway, the gargantuan V8 gets around 14 mpg. Not the worst in the class, but still a small number nonetheless. The electric version should be able to get over 400 miles without any issues considering the rumored size of the battery.
2024 Chevy Silverado 2500HD Price and Release Date
The pickup will probably arrive in late 2023, at best. The starting price for the 2024 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD is $30,000. This is the Working Truck trim. The RST trim is about $44,000, the LT $42,000, the Trail Boss $40,000, and the High Country will be $54,000. This is not the most expensive heavy-duty truck, but you know what you are getting with the Silverado 2500 HD.
