The upcoming 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro is one of the most impressive variants in the truck segment. It is a high-performance off-road-oriented model with simply amazing performances. New Tundra is the next-gen model, so we expect a lot of significant upgrades. As before, Toyota will try to rival the Ford F-150 Raptor model and its TRD Pro trim level is right there at the top.
The next-gen Tundra was supposed to arrive later in 2021, but this truck will go on sale in the first quarter of 2022. The Tundra TRD Pro will gain the same updates as the regular Tundra. That includes an exterior redesign, numerous interior changes, and even some changes under the skin.
2022 Tundra TRD Pro Redesign, New Colors
The next-gen 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro will arrive with an exterior redesign. Surely, this off-road version will have to depart from the regular Tundra truck. However, most of the updates are the same. The new model will combine designs of the RAV4 and Highlander models. The goal is to deliver a more modern appearance. Thanks to that, the front fascia will wear the same c-shaped daytime running lights and new LED headlights.
A recognizable trapezoidal grille will wear more chrome and the side profile will gain even more muscles. The rear part comes with vertical LED taillights and a power tailgate. As before, integrated bumpers steps will be in offer. Toyota could also introduce new and larger wheels and slightly more ground clearance. Lastly, the 4Runner TRD Pro trim will offer this amazing Citrus Metallic exterior paint. Hopefully, Tundra TRD Pro will offer the same color.
Interior Changes
The 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro will ride on the famous F1 platform. This architecture also underpins models such as the Tacoma pickup and Sequoia SUV. Tundra truck will offer slightly more room on the inside and the ride quality will be better. Comfort is improved as well as Tundra will now offer more upright materials.
On top of that, we expect to see more features and more driver-assistance aids. This truck comes with a standard 12.3-inch touchscreen and a new infotainment system. The manufacturer is yet to reveal a complete list of interior updates and we hope to see a surprise or two.
5.7-liter V8 Remains
A hybrid powertrain option is in the works. However, we can’t predict if the 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro will offer any sort of electrification. Reportedly, Toyota will deploy Lexus’ hybrid setup that includes a 3.5-liter V6 engine, electric motor, and battery pack.
This hybrid variant develops up to 450 horsepower. The current Tundra TRD Pro comes with a familiar 5.7-liter V8 gasoline unit that generates 380 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque. The F1 platform is built around the rear-wheel-drive setup but Tundra TRD Pro will feature an AWD system. Lastly, Toyota will offer both 10-speed automatic and 6-speed manual transmission.
2022 Toyota Tundra Price, Release Date
New 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro will now cost almost $55,000. Changes are significant, so the price increase is perfectly reasonable. Toyota will release a new Tundra truck in the first quarter of 2022, according to the latest reports.
