The next generation of the legendary pickup truck is on the way and while we are about to see various kinds of interesting novelties, it looks like the engine lineup will remain mostly unchanged. This includes the 2021 Ford F-150 Diesel, which will keep the same engine under the hood, though we won’t exclude the possibility to see some revisions in terms of power and efficiency.
On the other side, the upcoming redesign will bring a nice number of changes. Still, don’t expect to see any radical changes. This redesign will mostly be of an evolutionary character. However, that doesn’t mean we won’t see notable improvements in various aspects. Count on better driving characteristics, more tech features, new interior design and many other novelties. We also count on slight improvements in terms of performances and capabilities. The new model is expected to hit the market sometime in the second half of the year.
2021 Ford F-150 Diesel Engine
Of course, the most interesting part of this version is the engine. At this point, we don’t know the exact details, but there is no doubt that the 2021 Ford F-150 Diesel will carry on with the same six-cylinder unit. We are talking about a quite familiar 3.0-liter turbodiesel, which features a max output of 250 horsepower and 440 pound-feet of torque. That’s less power compared to diesel versions of rival trucks, such as Ram 1500 and Chevy Silverado 1500. Therefore, we might see some boost for this redesign, a little bit more power and torque in the new model.
Still, keep in mind that the current model already features pretty respectable performances, despite the lack of power. It can tow up to 11.500 pounds, which is less compared to Ram EcoDiesel, but significantly more compared to the Silverado, which can tow only 9.600 pounds. So, this power boost doesn’t seem so necessary at the moment. After, the new chassis and suspension should bring improvements anyway, whether we see a more powerful engine or not.
2021 Ford F-150 Diesel Redesign
When it comes to base design characteristics, the 2021 Ford F-150 Diesel won’t be any different compared to the rest of the lineup. That means you may count on a complete redesign, which will bring a nice number of novelties. Still, keep in mind that this will be rather an evolutionary redesign. Radical changes are not expected, which seems logical considering that the previous redesign has brought so many revolutionary design solutions, starting from the massive use of lightweight materials and similar things.
Naturally, the upcoming redesign will also bring new styling, though we don’t expect to see anything radical in this aspect either. The front end will be slightly changed, while the overall shape should remain pretty much the same. Bigger dimension changes aren’t expected either.
This is where we expect to see big changes. The current model does look okay in this aspect, but the new Ram 1500 has completely changed the game. This truck features spectacular interior quality, which is attractive and full of fine materials. Moreover, it also comes with loads of the latest tech goodies.
In order to retain the leading position on the market, the 2021 Ford F-150 Diesel will probably go in the same direction. We count on a pretty nice cabin, which will also utilize loads of hi-quality materials and more car-like aesthetics. Obviously, loads of new tech features will come as well. As we already mentioned, bigger changes in terms of dimensions are not expected, so we expect a similar amount of space on the inside. The new model will come in multiple cab designs and bed lengths.
2021 Ford F-150 Diesel Release Date and Price
Details about the launch date and price are yet to come. Still, we expect that the new model will hit the market sometime in the second half of the year. The current diesel model starts at around 46.500 dollars.
Other Powertrain Options
Of course, the 2021 Ford F-150 Diesel won’t be the only version of the new generation in the offer. The Blue Oval company will offer a truck for everyone and interestingly, most powertrain options will remain the same. Therefore, the offer will start with a good-old 3.3-liter V6 engine. Also, count on two familiar EcoBoost units, 2.7-liter and 3.5-liter engines. Despite the rumors about the new 4.8-liter V8 engine, it looks like we won’t see changes in this aspect either and that the current 5.0-liter Coyote will carry on in the same way.
Still, the new model won’t come without novelties under the hood. We are about to see a hybrid version in the offer for the first time. This one will come with an electric motor slotted between the engine and 10-speed automatic transmission. Finally, many reports suggest a new 5.2-liter V8 for the Raptor version, though we are still waiting for the official confirmation.
