The luxury carmaker is bringing a lot of novelties these days and, of course, the flagship SUV takes a special place. The next-generation of the Escalade is about to come in the next year and it will bring a lot of novelties. Besides a completely new styling, we are also about to see new mechanics, based on the company’s new T1 platform, which brings improvements in many aspects. It debuted in the Chevy Silverado pickup truck, so many experts believe there’s a place for the 2020 Cadillac Escalade EXT as well. Unfortunately, that won’t happen, so the upcoming paragraphs are nothing more than speculation.
Brief History
The original model came in the early 2000s, along with another rumored comeback model, Chevy Avalanche. It will a derivate of the standard SUV version, which features a typical pickup body style. The company called it Sport Utility Truck and it features a large cabin and not so long bed. Still, the bed was expansive into the cabin, thanks to the bottom-hinged rear door design. This design was called “Convert-a-Cab” and it was one of the most interesting features of this luxury truck.
During the production, which lasted between 2002 and 2013, we saw two generations of it. Unfortunately, it has never managed to establish some position on the market and sales numbers were always quite low. In the past couple of years, rumors about the possible comeback appeared. However, latest reports are suggesting that the 2020 Cadillac Escalade EXT definitely won’t come.
How would 2020 Cadillac Escalade EXT look like?
It’s not hard to presume how the new 2020 Cadillac Escalade EXT would look like. The next-generation Cadillac Escalade in on its way and it is about to bring a lot of novelties. Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is the new styling. The new SUV will be based on the Escala concept in terms of aesthetics. Of course, the EXT would come in a pickup layout but remain super-comfortable as well. It would ride on the same T1 platform, which debuted recently and which brings improvements in many aspects, including massive weight reduction, improved driveability and more.
Of course, the interior design would also have a lot of things in common with the next-generation Escalade. The dashboard would be pretty much the same, with an attractive design and hi-end materials. A quite similar list of standard equipment also seems logical. This includes the new Super Cruise system as well, which is one of the most advanced semi-autonomous driving systems these days.
Powertrain
There’s no doubt that the 2020 Cadillac Escalade EXT would feature the same engine lineup as its SUV sibling. Therefore, base models would feature a well-known 6.2-liter V8, which is good for about 420 horsepower. Higher trims would come with the company’s new, twin-turbo, which measures 4.2 liters in displacement. For this occasion, we would expect a max output of around 550 horses. Of course, both engines would come paired with a new 10-speed automatic transmission.
2020 Cadillac Escalade EXT Won’t Come
Despite numerous reports about the possible comeback, it looks like the 2020 Cadillac Escalade EXT won’t arrive. Simply, the previous generations were unsuccessful, so Cadillac doesn’t plan to start over the production of this truck. Simply, they don’t want another unsuccessful model in their portfolio. On the other side, the famous SUV version will come completely redesigned in the next year.
