2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD Prototype Spied with Mild Upgrades

After the 2020 redesign, the new 2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD will obtain mild upgrades for the first time. Previous models were basically a carryover, and now this heavy-duty truck lineup is getting mid-cycle upgrades. The sales are good and GMC has no plan to stop with the improvements. The manufacturer will provide updates in every category, including exterior and interior changes.

On top of that, the diesel powertrain should gain more torque. However, the engine lineup won’t change and we won’t be seeing any sort of electrification. Spy shots are available now, confirming the facelift of the Sierra lineup. The interior will gain more standard features and a couple of interesting upgrades. The sales will begin later next year and here’s everything you need to know.

2023 Sierra 2500HD Spy Photos

The 2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD was spotted wearing heavy camo. This prototype wears vinyl camouflage on the front fascia and behind the C-pillars, so we can’t say how significant the visual upgrades are. However, we can spot nice-looking 18-inch wheels, which means we are looking at the entry-level Sierra 2500HD.

Moreover, it seems like this base trim level is equipped with the X31 Off-Road package. We can easily spot the Rancho shocks, skid plates, and MT2 tires. Anyway, the front fascia wears new headlights and the grille looks redesigned. The rear section shows the same bumper and new taillights. We hope to see more details in the next batch of the spy shots.

Interior Upgrades

This is a very interesting category, as you can find a lot of rumors regarding the 2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD and its interior. For a start, some reports are suggesting a new cockpit. The spy photos didn’t show any interior details, unfortunately. The new cockpit includes a complete redesign with a new center stack and larger infotainment touchscreen.

Moreover, a new digital instrument cluster is also reportedly in the works. As you know, GM also introduced the brand-new Super Cruise hands-free system. This system should debut in the Sierra 1500 model. As for the Sierra 2500HD, Super Cruise could be on offer, but exclusively in the range-topping trim level.

More Torque For Sierra HD Diesel

The upcoming 2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD won’t gain new powertrain options. However, this truck will gain more torque. First of all, everything starts with a potent 6.6-liter V8 gasoline engine. This unit is capable of producing 400 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque. It is a reliable unit with a 6-speed automatic transmission and a standard rear-wheel-drive system.

As before, the all-wheel-drive setup will be optional. Optionally, you can buy a 6.6-liter V8 turbodiesel powertrain. This engine delivers 445 hp and around 900 lb-ft of torque. As we said, a diesel engine will get an even higher level of torque. A ten-speed automatic transmission is on offer and Sierra 2500HD can pull up to 35,000 pounds.

2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD Price, Release Date

The price of the new 2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD will start at around $40,000 or slightly below that. We are waiting to see pricing details, but the price will now surely start higher than before. Furthermore, the range-topping Denali trim level will start at above $60k. The new Sierra HD lineup of trucks will hit the markets later next year.
