2021 Chevy Silverado HD Preview: Changes and Updates

The competition in the segment of heavy-duty pickup trucks is extremely tough these days, despite there are only three major carmakers in the game. The main reason lays in the fact that modern trucks are far more versatile than before. It’s no more just about towing, these trucks also tend to be as comfortable as they can be, as well as to offer a full load of the latest tech goodies. That’s the reason why 2021 Chevy Silverado HD will come with updates, despite we are talking about a pretty fresh model.

At this point, we already know some of the key updates for the next year. One of them will be an update of the already-good camera-based trailing system. Also, there is a new special version made in cooperation with Carhartt. Some reports also suggest interior updates, but we believe Chevy will leave this for the year later. In any case, we expect to see 2021 Chevy Silverado HD sometime late this year.

2021 Chevy Silverado HD Changes

One of the biggest updates for the next year will be a new version of the model’s famous camera-based trailing systems. This is already one of the finest systems in the business, which consists of 15 cameras that show the truck and trailer from pretty much every angle and allows perfect control of the situation. The company is about to update the software, so the next-year version will feature an even better user experience.

Exterior

When it comes to the exterior design, we don’t expect to see any particular change. The 2021 Chevy Silverado HD will carry on with the same styling and mechanical setup. So, you may count on various versions, not just in terms of the cab design and bed length, but also in terms of the styling, accessories etc. For the next year, the best we could see are new exterior color options. Other than that, we don’t expect to see any particular change.

Interior

Many experts expect to see the same kind of interior update we are about to see in light-duty models for the next year. As you probably know, GM has prepared a completely new cabin design, finally, which will look pretty much the same as the new Tahoe and Suburban models. However, we believe that the new dashboard design won’t be ready for HD models and that the 2021 Chevy Silverado HD interior will remain the same for another year. This update is expected for the next year. On the other side, we won’t be surprised if we see novelties in terms of standard equipment.

2021 Chevy Silverado HD Engines

The engine lineup will also remain the same. This means you may count on two familiar engine options, one gasoline and one oil burner. Base models will carry on with the new 6.6-liter V8 gasoline, which is good for about 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque. On the other side, the famous Duramax 6.6-liter turbodiesel has remained pretty much unchanged and still comes with the same specs, which means a max output that goes around 445 horsepower and 910 pound-feet of torque.

When it comes to the transmission, the gasoline engine uses a 6-speed gearbox, while the diesel comes with a new 10-speed automatic transmission.

Towing Capacity

The most important improvement we’ve seen with the recent redesign is significantly improved towing capacity, with more than 50% better numbers compared to the previous generation. For the first time in many years, Chevy HD trucks are on part with their rivals from Ford and Ram, and the max towing capacity goes up to impressive 35.500 pounds. Of course, we are talking about the most capable 3500HD model with a diesel engine.

When it comes to the 2021 Chevy Silverado 2500HD, you may count on max towing capacity of up to 18.600 pounds, while 3500HD models can tow up to 21.500 pounds. Of course, you can always get a dual-rear-wheel version, which significantly increases max 2021 Chevy Silverado HD towing capacity, which goes all-away up to 35.500 pounds.

2021 Chevy Silverado HD Release Date and Price

We expect to see 2021 Chevy Silverado HD sometime late in the year with the pretty much unchanged price. This means that based models should go around 34.500 dollars for the 2500HD model and 35.500 for the 3500HD model.

2021 Chevy Silverado HD Carhartt

The 2021 Chevy Silverado HD Carhartt Special Edition will be one of the more interesting novelties for the next year. This package is mostly about aesthetics and, as you may presum, the styling takes a lot of inspiration from the famous workwear makers. This refers both to exterior and interior design, where you can find a lot of details that are typical for Carhartt. This model is actually based on the LTZ trim level, but includes the Z71 Off-Road Package as well. A crew cab is the only cab style that comes with this special version.

When will Chevy get adaptive cruise control?
Any vehicle without that is a non starter for me.
