2024 RAM Dakota Will Officially Return as a Mid-Size Pickup Truck

The upcoming 2024 RAM Dakota is happening after all. RAM officially confirmed this mid-size pickup truck, although the manufacturer didn’t reveal many details. According to RAM, the mid-size pickup truck segment is “the best opportunity” for the brand. We already heard a lot of rumors regarding the Dakota model. It seems like the 2022MY or 2023MY won’t happen. Reportedly, this model will arrive as a 2024MY, which comes as a surprise.

If you remember, Dakota was available over a decade ago. Now, the comeback is more probable than ever before. It will directly rival models such as Ford Ranger, GMC Canyon, and Chevy Colorado. Some rumors are also suggesting the high-performance Dakota SRT variant, which would be great to see. Anyway, here’s everything you need to know.

2024 Dakota Engine Rumors

The most logical way for a new 2024 RAM Dakota to arrive is as a body-on-frame truck. It could be based on a downsized Ram 1500 architecture, allowing for the class-exclusive fitment of a V8 engine. On top of that, it could share chassis with the Jeep Gladiator. It’s also possible that the Dakota will be reborn as a lifestyle pickup similar to the 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz. Stellantis already sells a pickup like this in Central and South America.

In Brazil, it’s known as the Fiat Toro, but in other Latin American countries, it’s known as the RAM 1000. For now, a 3.6-liter V6 gasoline engine is the most likely outcome. However, a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel with 260 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque could be on offer as well. Some reports are predicting some sort of a hybrid powertrain. Lastly, you can find a lot of rumors regarding the high-performance Dakota SRT model.

Exterior Design

The forthcoming 2024 RAM Dakota will resemble the Ram 1500 pickup truck. We are not surprised because this is the most logical outcome. Dakota is, of course, a smaller pickup, but it will look distinctive and modern. The design language is recognized because both the Dakota and Ram 1500 have the same body lines.

Even some of the exterior characteristics are nearly identical. The front fascia features a familiar trapezoidal grille as well as LED headlamps. Dakota, as opposed to the Ram 1500, has different doors and fenders. The bumpers, as well as the wheels and exterior colors, are distinctive. The rear section features LED taillights and, in our opinion, looks very stylish. As we said, Dakota will be a mid-size pickup truck.

Interior Features

The same theme can be found throughout the interior. The new 2024 RAM Dakota will be based on the Ram 1500, so the interior design will be similar. This is a good thing because the Ram 1500 has a very modern and upright interior. The comfort is excellent, and we anticipate a plethora of standard amenities. Dakota will, indeed, receive a new infotainment system, enhanced driver-assistance features, and much more.

The 12-inch touchscreen is the biggest mystery. We believe that, contrary to popular belief, this unit will be optional rather than standard. Dakota pickup will have a spacious interior and a high level of comfort. Because the goal is to deliver a modern pickup truck, a digital instrument cluster will be available. Dodge will also offer optional features such as a panoramic sunroof and Wi-Fi.

I have a gladiator overland and will be interested in a Ram Dakota!

Nobody makes BETTER small, light duty trucks, than HONDA. The Ridgeline is the perfect choice for someone who DOESN’T need a full size, body on frame, gas guzzler.
